Everyone laughed at that episode of Friends when Ross - ever the sensible goat - said that if they won the lottery he'd invest his share.

Well I've come into a bit of money, not a lot, but a bit, and am thinking about my best options of what to do with it. I don't want to blow it all on something outlandish, that's not me at all, and I wouldn't mind taking a nice trip somewhere, but apart from I don't really want for anything, so I'm thinking about investing it.

There are a lot of options for investing out there, from the more hands-on investment like property, to companies that hold your money for you and do all the investing themselves.

The latter appeals to me much more, and I've set up meetings with a few personal wealth management and stock broking companies Rowan Dartington and Barclays to see more about my options.

I feel so sensible! But a big blow-out would feel like such a waste of a great opportunity.
